SEGGER’s STM32-SFI Flasher Commander secures firmware right up to the target

SEGGER announces the launch of the STM32-SFI Flasher Commander, a free command line interface (CLI) tool, developed to support the Secure Firmware Installation (SFI) feature from STMicroelectronics.

As part of the production process of SFI-enabled STM32 microcontrollers, the IP owner sends encrypted firmware along with the matching firmware decryption key, which is securely stored on a Hardware Security Module (HSM), to the facility programming the microcontrollers for production. This can be a contract manufacturer or a distributor that offers mass programming of stocked devices for delivery.

At the programming facility, the STM32-SFI Flasher Commander interfaces with SEGGER’s Flasher PRO, PRO XL, or Compact in-circuit programmers and transfers the encrypted firmware image and the matching firmware decryption key (also in encrypted form) to the target MCUs to be programmed.

“As an active member of the ST Partner Program, we are happy to contribute reliable production tools for our mutual customers that fully embrace the specific production process of SFI-enabled STM32 microcontrollers,“ says Dirk Akemann, Marketing Manager at SEGGER. “Our aim is to always ensure that customers, ST’s and ours, have the safest and most secure programming experience possible.”

SEGGER will present the new STM32-SFI Flasher Commander at productronica in Munich, Germany, from November 14 to 17 at booth A1.174.
