Safety First with Socionext Smart Display Controllers

With requirements for HMI growing all the time and safety standards increasing, intelligent remote displays are one of the biggest challenges in vehicles. The next generation of highly integrated smart display controllers from Socionext help manufacturers to overcome this challenge with ease.

Challenges for Display Requirements

  • Number, size and resolution of displays are increasing globally
  • Majority of systems installed are cluster or CID (centre information display) application
  • A cluster display must meet the specifications of ISO 26262 and include safety functions like freeze detection and signature verification.
  • CID displays require a relatively high resolution, a touchscreen, and various other functions such as a greater contrast range (HDR) or colour space.
  • OEMs focus on the video link between a Head Unit and LCD displays.
  • In addition to offer the suitable functionalities for Cluster and Cid, scalability is also important ensuring that costs and development time are minimised.
  • The controller must support an appropriate safety concept with a safety manual and FMEDA reports.

Fulfilling Display Requirements
Socionext’s SC1701 smart display controllers meet all the technical and safety demands:

  • “Signature Check” that can be performed in a freely definable area using a CRC value
  • “Contrast Calculation” function to determine differences in colour between the background and foreground of the image, and alert a driver if necessary
  • “Evaluation Cluster” function for freeze detection applications, which involve the integration and checking of a frame counter that is not visible to the user
  • “Identity Hash” algorithm which can add a tolerance margin in the comparison, so that the minimal and imperceptible deviations in the image content are ignored.

APIX technology is also integrated into Socionext’s smart display controllers offering a wide range of diagnostic functions for continuous monitoring of data transmission and for tracking and storing potential errors.
