Plastic enclosures of 1556 series by Hammond
You’re already familiar with the industrial enclosures of 1557 series by Hammond from SOS electronic article “Robust Enclosures with Elegant Design”.
The new series of plastic enclosures, Hammond 1556, derived from the 1557 series, introduces sufficiently durable enclosures to the market, with a modern and elegant design while maintaining a very favorable price.
How do the Hammond 1556 and 1557 series differ?
Unlike the Hammond 1557 series, available in a UV-resistant polycarbonate version with IP68, the new Hammond 1556 series is made of high-quality ABS, with a UL94-V0 fire reaction class and an IP54 rating.
“These parameters primarily designate the Hammond 1556 series for indoor use or environments without direct sunlight exposure and exposure to weather conditions,” says Martin Brestovič, product specialist at SOS electronic.
The Hammond 1556 series is a cost-effective alternative to the 1557 series, meeting high fire resistance requirements (UL94-V0). To maintain the best price, self-tapping plastic screws are used for the connection of the top and bottom parts of the enclosure, rather than metric + anti-corrosion threaded inserts, as seen in the Hammond 1557 series.
“From this perspective, the 1556 enclosures are not suitable for devices requiring frequent opening, necessary, for example, during battery replacement,” continues Martin Brestovič.
The Hammond 1556 series enclosures can be mounted on a panel using 4 visible fasteners (legs) or with 2 hidden hooks, available separately as optional accessories. Internal 2mm thick aluminum mounting panels are also available in the category of Hammond 1556xPL frames and covers.
Key features of the plastic enclosures in the Hammond 1556 series:
- 14 new types available in light gray, black, and white colors,
- 6 rectangular sizes: 120 mm x 80 mm x 45 mm to 200 mm x 160 mm x 70 mm,
- 8 square sizes: 80 mm x 80 mm x 45 mm to 200 mm x 200 mm x 70 mm,
- Various mounting pillars for PCB mounting on the bottom and top of the enclosure.
