Is your power supply ready for the Industrial Internet of Things?

In 2004, Phoenix Contact released their first DC UPS, the first generation QUINT-UPS, which is still in use and purchased today.

Then in 2011, they released the QUINT UPS-IQ, which for the first time allowed some monitoring of the connected battery to see such things as battery status, battery lifetime, and remaining runtime. With this generation of UPS it is possible to pass this info up to higher level controls but requires additional hardware.

Now, with the release of the QUINT4 DC UPS it is possible to integrate a UPS into an industrial network directly with no additional hardware.

With models for PROFINET, EtherNet/IP, EtherCAT® most popular networks are covered. In addition, there is a version with a USB interface, and one with no network connections, only relay/transistor outputs.

In terms of output, there are 5, 10, 20 and 40A ratings meaning a total of 20 brand new models.

Using the tried and trusted IQ Technology, reliable determination of remaining service life in months and remaining buffer times in minutes can be monitored and reported.

With automatic battery detection, battery technologies including VRLA, VRLA-WTR (Wide Temperature Range) or Lithium-Ion with different capacities can be connected, and with the most powerful battery charger, loads are prioritised and recharge times minimised.

Integration is straightforward with function blocks available for the Phoenix Contact PCWorx as well as third-party packages, TIA-Portal, Logix Designer or TwinCAT.

The UPS also features Extended Load Management which allows Monitoring of currents and voltages at the input, output, battery and the upstream QUINT POWER unit, and allows shut down of connected loads including industrial PC’s.  Another useful feature is the Cold Start function that enables the UPS to start up via the battery.

So with many of the most popular networks covered and with more to follow, the QUINT4 DC-UPS is the perfect choice for the Industrial IoT.
