Infineon teams with Framework to launch an upgradeable, customizable, repairable laptop with advanced USB-C connectivity

The issue of e-waste and disposable laptops has become a growing concern for many consumers looking for more sustainable options for their technology products. In response, Framework Computer Inc., in collaboration with Infineon Technologies AG (FSE: IFX / OTCQX: IFNNY), has recently launched their latest product, the Framework Laptop 16. This laptop is the first consumer product to support 180 W and 240 W USB-C, thanks in large part to the use of the highly integrated dual/single port USB-C PD controller with Extended Power Range (EPR) support, EZ-PD™ CCG8.

“The EZ-PD CCG8 has enabled immense flexibility, not only supporting the latest USB-PD 3.1 standard, but also making our unique Expansion Card system possible, allowing end user customization of ports.” said Nirav Patel, Founder and CEO of Framework. “Decarbonization is a goal we work towards every day at Infineon. I am very delighted that thanks to our solution, Framework offers a product to its customers which is not only high-performing but also supports a greener tomorrow.” said Ganesh Subramaniam, Senior Vice President of Wired Connectivity Solutions at Infineon.

The EZ-PD CCG8 is a USB Type-C controller. It is dual/single-port and complies with the latest USB Type-C and Power Delivery specifications. The controller includes discrete N-channel field effect transistor (NFET) gate driver with fault protection and slew rate. It offers a 32-bit, 48 MHz Arm ® Cortex ®-M0 Plus processor and integrates a Type-C transceiver with R p, R d, and dead battery R dtermination. These features provide a complete USB Type-C and USB PD port control solution. The EZ-PD CCG8 simplifies the design process for engineers. It is an excellent choice for advanced connectivity solutions in PCs, notebooks, and other devices.
