Differential pressure sensor supports eight pressure ranges

Superior Sensor Technology’s Multi-Range technology enables one differential pressure sensor to support up to eight different pressure ranges.

Superior Sensor Technology offers its Multi-Range technology that enables one differential pressure sensor to support up to eight different pressure ranges across its portfolio of differential pressure sensors. This proprietary technology eliminates the need to source and design-in multiple differential pressure sensors, while reducing design complexity and lowering system manufacturing costs, according to the company. These sensors are finding homes in HVAC, medical, and industrial applications.

One example is the HV210 for measuring airflow and velocity in HVAC equipment. The HV210 is configurable to work with seven different pressure ranges from 0.1″ H2O to 10″ H2O with an accuracy within 0.10% on each selected range.

Dwyer Instruments, for example, is using the HV210 for measuring airflow and velocity in HVAC equipment. Designed into its Series DP3 Wireless Differential Pressure Module, the company said it provides a 10× improvement in signal-to-noise (SNR) compared to competitive devices and supports seven pressure ranges without performance degradation. In this example, the HV210 enables the Series DP3 to support ultra-low pressures, auto-ranging down to 0.1″ H2O.

Each pressure range is factory calibrated to ensure there is no degradation in total error band, accuracy, and stability regardless of the range selected, said the company. The pressure range can be programmed via a single software command, which makes it easy to change the range for different product applications. They also can be selected ‘on the fly’ in the field by technicians.

“Multi-Range technology is a game changer for manufacturers as it makes their products more attractive to wider customer set,” said Anthony Gioeli, vice president of marketing, Superior Sensor Technology, in a statement. “Developing a single product that can be used to support multiple use cases or applications improves both a manufacturer’s top line and bottom line.”

The company showcased its Multi-Range technology and other product technologies at Sensors Converge 2022.
