Arrow Electronics adds radiation hardened Arm® microcontrollers from VORAGO Technologies

Arrow Electronics has announced a distribution agreement with VORAGO Technologies, which specialises in radiation hardened and extreme-temperature Arm®-based microcontrollers (MCUs). The agreement lets Arrow offer European customers a portfolio of qualified devices that are ready to deploy in space and harsh industrial environments.

The VORAGO product range includes space-grade and industrial-grade Arm Cortex®-M0 and Cortex-M4 MCUs that contain rich peripherals with up to 256KB on-chip Flash and 64KB RAM. With up to 104 general-purpose I/Os and options including CAN2.0, 10/100 Ethernet, and Spacewire interfaces, the MCUs help designers save system size and weight and simplify end-product approval to applicable industry standards.

“These ultra-rugged microcontrollers from VORAGO Technologies add value to the Arrow portfolio, enabling us to address opportunities including Industrial IoT devices for harsh environments and emerging markets for low-cost small satellites,” said Matthias Hutter, vice president product management and supplier marketing in EMEA, Arrow Electronics.

“Working with Arrow in Europe now gives us access to a greater number and diversity of customers whose projects can benefit from our radiation hardened MCUs,” commented Bernd Lienhard, chief executive officer of VORAGO. “We are continuing to grow our presence in Europe, and we are looking forward to achieving our objectives working with Arrow’s accomplished engineering and sales teams.”

VORAGO has built its portfolio of rugged MCUs leveraging patented HARSIL® technology, which enables cost-effective hardening for extreme environment operations and is compatible with high-volume production. At the same time, taking advantage of industry-standard Arm cores helps assure users of advanced performance and efficiency, as well as simplifying development using familiar tools and techniques.

Currently there is a choice of eight devices that offer various combinations of peripherals, with options including an integrated temperature sensor, DMA controller, and integrated FRAM for improved data retention in environments that contain radiation. The MCUs offer specified radiation performance, including total ionising dose at least >200 krad(Si) and SEL Immunity: > 110 (MeVcm²) /mg (at T=125°C).

Arrow will support the complete VORAGO portfolio of MCUs and development kits that help users jump-start their projects and accelerate time to market.
