Toshiba Memory Europe GmbH Announces New USB 3.0 Flash Drives

Retractable U365 drive has up to 256GB capacity and up to 150MB/s read speed

Toshiba Memory Europe GmbH has announced a new flash drive U365, a large capacity USB 3.0 flash drive in a retractable form factor. U365 range has up to 256GB [1] in capacity, and maximum read speed of 150MB/s [2].

U365 uses BiCS FLASH™, stacked 3D flash memory with higher die area density vs. conventional 2D NAND flash memory.

Four variants are available, with 32, 64 128 and 256GB of storage [3]. The 256GB model can hold approximately 5 hours of 4K video [4]. Alternatively, the 256GB model can hold 715 five-minute songs of high-resolution 192 kHz/24bit stream audio [5].

Sandrine Aubert, Senior Marketing Manager of Toshiba Memory Europe GmbH said: “The BiCS FLASH™ technology allows to increase capacity to 256 GB and U365 boasts maximum read speed of 150 MB/s. So with U365, we can offer both speed and capacity in one elegantly-designed flash drive.”

U365’s sleekly-designed body comes in a matte black finish design without ornate features to give a subdued and sophisticated feel. Its cap-less design uses an intuitive sliding retractable Type-A USB interface, which is both USB 2.0 (High Speed) and USB 3.0 (Super Speed) compatible. It measures approximately 55 x 21.4 x 8.5mm, excluding its slide tab, and weighs approximately 9g.memory

Compatible operating systems include Windows 7, 8.1 and 10, and OS X v10.9 – 10.11, macOS v10.12 – v 10.13. The U365 will be available in April 2018.

Notes:

[1] Capacity is based on installed flash memory and not user available memory as part of the memory is used for management functions. Usable capacity (available user area) is approx. 230.4GB (1GB = 1,073,741,824bytes).

[2] 1MB/s is calculated as 1,000,000bytes/s. The value is the best value obtained in specific test environment at Toshiba Memory Corporation and Toshiba Memory Corporation does not warrant read speed used in individual devices. Read speed may vary depending on user-specifications such as devices used and file size read. The write speed is lower than the read speed.

[3] Part of the memory is used for management functions and therefore capacity is based on installed flash memory and not user available memory. Usable capacity (available user area) is approx. 230.4GB (256GB device), 115.2GB (128GB device), 57.6GB (64GB device) and 28.8GB (32GB device). (1GB = 1,073,741,824bytes).

[4] Calculated assuming that single video file is recorded at 100Mbps (Approximate playtime which can be stored). Actual time depends on the video device, resolution and compression rate. 1Mbps=1,000,000bps.

[5] Calculated assuming that each song is five minutes long and is recorded as an uncompressed 192 kHz/ 24bit stream. Since the file size depends on the high-resolution audio format, the number of songs that can be stored on a USB flash drive depends on the audio format used.
