Renesas has recently expanded the S3A1 Group with the addition of four new 32-bit Microcontrollers and updated Renesas SynergyTM Software Package (SSP) to v.1.4.0. Renesas expand S3A1 group of Microcontrollers with four new Devices The expanded Renesas Synergy S3A1 group provides up to 1 MB code flash, 192 K SRAM with segment LCD controllers, capacitive touch unit and a host of analog and security features to realize a variety of embedded systems & IoT designs.
The Renesas Synergy S3A1 group is ideal for monitoring applications that may require ongoing feature upgrades for multiple services, they offer ample room for expansion and the optimal combination of low power and high performance, with an Arm® Cortex®-M4 CPU core running up to 48 MHz, 1 MB of flash memory, and 192 KB of SRAM. It includes an additional 12-bit D/A Converter as well as multiple 32-Bit General PWM timers and serial communications interfaces.
The Synergy S3A1 group of microcontrollers are feature, pin and IP compatible with other Synergy MCU groups offering unparalleled scalability, and code reuse to accelerate hardware and software development. The Synergy S3A1 group of microcontrollers are available in many different memory densities and package/pin footprints.
The new Synergy SSP v.1.4.0 provides cutting edge features accessible through a common API layer making developing complex applications easy. Renesas has achieved a revolutionary new level of abstraction in the design process, enabling the designer to start development at the Application Programming Interface (API), thus reducing time to market, lowering total cost of ownership and removing barriers to entry. Beneath that API layer sits a massive software platform which represents more than 200 man years of development work and over a million lines of code. Renesas is prepared to support, qualify and maintain the complete platform as a product, to their usual high standards of quality and reliability.
The Synergy platform significantly reduces the complexity usually involved when building advanced embedded applications, such as HMI designs, applications with graphical user interfaces & capacitive touch technology, connected devices, security aware applications and more. The platform approach provides the user access to all needed building blocks without the need for licensing or integrating separate components.
The Synergy S3A1 group of microcontrollers are ideally suited to a wide range of applications including IoT devices, Monitoring & control, Sensor networks, HMI, Embedded GUI, Touch interfaces, DALI lighting, Home automation, Industrial automation, Building automation, Domestic appliances, Energy management systems and Healthcare and medical equipment.
To help getting started with the new Renesas Synergy S3A1 group and SSP v1.4.0 easy and inexpensive, Renesas have released the new Target Board TB-S3A1 kit featuring a 48 MHz Arm® Cortex®-M4 based MCU and pin headers to connect to MCU pins and access various peripherals. This new board features PmodTM connectors to allow connection to a vast ecosystem of add-ons, and has J-Link® on Board for programming & debugging.
