How Does Everyday Technology Give Nuclear Fusion the Engineering Edge?


The world is full of interesting applications of everyday technology – and RS Components is sending Dr. Lucy Rogers, Ph.D. on a mission to find the engineering edge in sometimes little-known, but important, places.

 

In episode 3 of the Engineering Edge podcast, Lucy makes a visit to the National Research Laboratory for Fusion Energy in the UK to explore the Joint European Torus (JET), the world’s largest operational magnetically confined plasma physics experiment.  Scientists at JET are researching how the process that powers the sun could be turned into carbon-free, safe and abundant electricity for a cleaner planet. While that may sound complicated, there is a surprising amount of familiar everyday technology that is critical to experimentation and data analysis JET. Listen along as Lucy talks with members of the JET team about how they achieve the “Engineering Edge.”
